CKEditor 5 Released

CKEditor 5

We’re excited to announce that version 5.0 of our CKEditor plugin is here! The update introduces several new authoring features, and makes it easier to extend with custom CKEditor plugins.

Fullscreen mode. Edit your content in a distraction-free fullscreen editor.

New Link modal. The Link modal has been updated to reflect Craft’s Link fields, complete with optional advanced fields like “Title text”.

Drag-and-drop uploading. Authors can now drag-and-drop images into CKEditor fields, to be uploaded and included in the field content.

Quick nested image entry creation. CKEditor fields can now be configured to insert images as nested entries rather than <img> tags.

Simpler field configuration. Each CKEditor field now defines its own toolbar and configuration options, straight from the field settings.

Module-based plugins. CKEditor.js and CKEditor plugins are now built using the new module-based method, making it much easier to extend.

If you’re extending CKEditor with custom plugins, see #363 for instructions on updating them to modules.

For the full list of changes, see the release notes on GitHub.

Happy updating!
